Miss Manners is the pen name of American author, journalist and etiquette authority, Judith Martin. The pen name originated with her advice column (published in newspapers worldwide since 1978) on etiquette matters. In those pieces she liked to answer reader dilemmas in third person, using "Miss Manners" to replace "I'.
