The Swadeshi Steam Navigation Company was established by V.O. Chidambaram Pillai in Tuticorin, India in 1906. Pillai played a significant role in the Indian independence movement and founded the company to promote Swadeshi (self-reliance) and challenge British dominance in the shipping industry.
