The Malays originated in Yunnan, China. They Proto-Malays were also known as Jakun. They were seafaring people. Probably because of their seafaring way of life or trading, they were believed to have lived in coastal Borneo. They then expanded into Sumatra and the Malay Peninsula. A Portuguese historian, Godinho de Eredia, referred to the Malays as Saletes (Orang Selat, or People of the Straits).

I'm afraid, NO In Islam, parents are honoured that obeying them is paired with Allah's worship. when you marry, you don't just chose the single person, but it is a new whole relation between two families, even if you thought you may do without your families and live separately, the truth, in fact is the opposite, one day or another you'll get into trouble related to that parental disagreement. Let it be in your mind that when a person doesn't make respect to those who raised him, the day comes when his partner disrespects him/her. So this is not only a requirement for linking the family relations "selat al Rahim", but also a saviour of your honour and respect in the eyes of your partner. Apart from this, Islam didn't leave the whole issue to parents alone, the person in charge must say his word of yes or no. Not only that, but also regarding some parents who oppose their children always and are against their marriage altogether, here, Islam permits the woman to make the court judge as her person of charge "waleyy" who completes the steps of her marriage.
