Its totally imbalanced: Feanor is just an Elf and Morgoth is a dark Vala! Also Morgoth had stolen the Silmarils from Feanor. Third the Silmarils weren't weapons, they were jewels that had been designed by Feanor to hold the light of the 2 trees. Only the power of the other Valar (who hesitated as they knew such a war would severely damage earth) or the direct power of Eru (who wanted to see how his creations could handle things themselves) could stop Morgoth. Eventually it took both, the Valar to defeat him and Eru to banish him. One more thing, after the Kin Slaying neither Feanor nor his brothers could ever touch a Silmaril again without being burned by it like the Silmarils burned every evil creature that touched them. They burned Morgoth as he took them away to his fortress (this is why he became black, prior to this though evil he was fair to look upon), they burned the innards of Morgoth's chief Warg Carcharoth when it bit off Beren's hand carrying a Silmaril stolen from Morgoth's crown driving the Warg totally mad (Note: this Silmaril was eventually returned to the Far West by Earindil and now provides the light of Earindil's star: the evening and morning star.), they burned Feanor's only surviving brother when he stole another Silmaril from Morgoth's crown and was driven so mad that he drowned himself in the sea taking that Silmaril with him to the bottom of the sea. The third Silmaril was lost in the final destruction of Angband.

There are many ancient stories of elves. Many people believe they are the dark cousins of fairies. Many cultures revere fairies and elves alike. The best way to do research on them is to look into the folklore and myths of different cultures especially Celtic and European cultures. There are also stories being published today about different types of elves and fairies, see below. They were created by Illuvater as recorded in the Silmarrilion as his first born children and came out of the light on ships and landed in middle earth but were taken by the Valar to Valinor for their protection from Morgoth. While in Valinor they fashioned the magical Silmarils. Morgoth stole the Silmarils and fled to middle earth. Elves, known as the Noldor, pursued Morgoth into middle earth to reclaim their precious gems. Morgoth fled to his fortress in Angband for hundreds of years and built up strength. Then he emerged and slaughtered the Noldor. It was the Gray Elf (elves who never went to Valinor) Luthien and her lover Beran (a mortal) who finally recovered the Silmarils through sorcery. Morgth continued to slaughter the elves, until a mortal took to the sea with a silmaril and arrived through magic to Valinor, where he persuaded the Valar to return and defeat Morgoth. In a final battle the Valar defeated Morgoth and the rest of the Silmarils were lost. The Valar then took most of the Elves back to Valinor. Those who remained forged magic rings and for the races. Sauron tricked them and forged his own ring, dominating and syphoning their rings' strength. The elves joined with the Arnorians and Gondorians to defeat sauron. Then When Sauron arose a second time, many of the elves began to flee middle earth on white ships. Sauron was eventually defeated when the ring was destroyed. The remaining elves set sail to Valinor, never to be seen again. Arwen, daughter of Elrond, remained in Middle Earth, but in time became mortal and died of sorrow after the death of Aragorn, and lies now in the heart of Lorien. If you believe in elves, they can come from wherever you want them to come from, Santa's workshop, forests, elf land. But if you CHOOSE not to believe in them, they don't come from anywhere but your imagination!
