Aesop was a famous storyteller since from the beginning; he was born in 620 B.C although nobody knows in what city-state. Thrace, Phrygia, Aethiopia, Samos, Athens and Sardis all claim he was born in them. Aseop was born in a family of slaves who were owned by two masters named Xanthus and Jadmon. Greek citizens who have known Aesop say his name wasn't originally Aesop but "Aethiopian" which is referred to dark skinned people. When Aesop was just a little boy, his two masters Xanthus and Jadmon had given him freedom as reward for his learning and wits. Many Greek citizens say, Xanthus freed Aesop because he used his wits to win Xanthus' wife back after she left him because of a quarrel that happened between Xanthus and his wife. As a freedman, Aesop was allowed privileges that no slave could ever have. He was allowed to take interest in public affairs and soon became a philosopher like many Greek men. Aesop's death was committed by the "Delphians" who pushed the poor slave off a cliff. Although nobodies sure why the "Delphians" pushed him off a cliff, witnesses say it was because he insulted the "Delphians."
There is usually a moral or life lesson in many of Aesops fables. Some are cautionary, some an illistration of what happens if you don't walk the right path.
