Different producers use different software to their acquired taste. I use Ableton live suite and have done for a year. Deadmau5 uses fruity loops. Prodigy uses reason, ableton and logic. Ian Carey uses Steinberg Cubase 5. As far as i know of it, vast majority use Logic pro as it is pretty industry standard.
It's all about what you like and etc. I have to say that ableton is my favourite because it's so simple and intuitive as well as you can use it to dj with. You can do a MASH up on the fly. It would be my choice for a lot because it truly has it all! It is an extremely flexible program for alot of today's needs
Logic is extremely professional software used by a bunch! Ranging from hardcore producers - Tiesto/Prodigy - to people not as well known but still amazing producers - John B Beta, Jordan Suckley. It's a great rock solid producer program!
Labrinth uses Logic Pro to record music. You can check his producers house here on SBTV where he makes a beat from scratch and you see him using Logic.
The Music Producer software is available on free download. In this way you can write your own material and have it for free. It is unlikely that any professional music producer will offer music for free.
There are a range of different software options which are the most common among top producers; these include Logic Pro Studio, Ableton Live, Reason and Cubase. From these it is merely a personal preference to use the platform which you work best with. The best music making software for any type of music, including techno, would be Pro Tools. The top producers in the business use this software. While it is pricey, it is worth it.Although Pro Tools is good, I would not suggest for a beginner. I think the ease of use is confusing for a beginner and not to mention the price.SonicProducer is very inexpensive and designed around beginners. I haven't needed any features they don't provide and the price is something like $15 a month; which is nothing. For more info, check out sonicproducer.org
You can use the Kazaa software. It's easy to install and to use.
