The iPod shuffle has 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB versions. According to Apple the 1GB can hold up to of 240 songs, and the 4GB can hold up to 1000 songs. Song capacity is dependent on song length and the quality of encoding. Apple also say "Song capacity is based on 4 minutes per song and 128-Kbps AAC encoding; in 256-Kbps AAC format, song capacity is up to 250 songs (2GB) or 500 songs (4GB).
Any where between 500 to 600 songs. But again they depend on the file size
The cheapest iPod by Apple is the iPod Shuffle which is roughly around fifty dollars. It doesn't hold very many songs. You could get an MP3 player if you have a budget that holds more songs.
