How to Use a DTV Converter Box to Convert Digital Broadcast Television?
With the recent switch of broadcast television services from analog to digital signals, it may seem that your old standard-definition television is now worthless. However, instead of hauling that expensive TV to the local dump, there’s a simple solution. Use a DTV converter box to convert those digital signals to analog so you can watch your TV again.First of course, you need to buy a DTV converter box. You can currently find one at most retailers that sell electronics. Next, place the converter box somewhere near your television. Turn off your TV and any other electronic devices connected to it.The next step is to connect your converter box to your antenna with a RF coaxial cable. One end of the cable should be connected to the port labeled To TV on your antenna. The other end of the cable should be connected to the Antenna RF In port on your converter box.Next, you need to connect your converter box to your television. For most televisions this can be done with component cables. Component cables include one yellow connector for video and two connectors, one white and one red, for audio that produce stereo sound. For older TVs with screw terminals, use a transformer you can buy at most electronics stores to make the connection instead. Now you should plug the power cord for the converter box into an outlet. Turn on your TV and make sure it is set to ether channel 3 or 4.Now turn on the converter box. If connected correctly, you should be taken to a screen asking you to scan for channels. Allow it to scan through the signal being fed through your antenna to the converter box.The last step is to set the aspect ratio. The aspect ratio is the geometric proportions of your television screen. Widescreen televisions have 16:9 aspect ratios, and square screen televisions have 4:3 aspect ratios. The aspect ratio will typically be set to 16:9 automatically, so you may have to change it.After all this is done, you’ll finally be able to enjoy broadcast television again without having to upgrade to an expensive HD TV.
