First of all you need to have the microphone hooked up to the computer before you load audacity. Second you need to go into the control panel of the PC and find sound devices, and choose the input to the location of where you pluged in the mic.

well i do this exact same thing.. for free :)you need: instruments a rock band microphone to download a free program called Audacity to dowload LAME mp3 encoder then look up on youtube how to use audacity and take it from there :)
This isn't exactly the correct answer, but you can plug your headphones into where your microphone would be plugged in at (As long as it isn't headphones that plug into an USB port) and they would work as a microphone. (Download audacity if you want a good test of this.)
In order to record with Audacity, you have to either have a microphone plugged in to your computer or have a built-in mic. Once you have one of these, open up Audacity and press the button with the red circle in it to start recording. Press the stop button (the one with a black square) to stop recording.
You can use any microphone with Audacity that will work with your computer. You might choose a USB headset from Logitech if you want to do lower quality voice recording. For higher quality, choose a USB microphone from Blue, ART or Audio Technica.
For computer gameplay, fraps will aoutomatically pick up your microphone, for pvr's i think you might need to plug the mic directly into the pvr, OR use Audacity on your computer
Audacity is a free open source program that you can make and edit sound effects. Here's how you use it: 1.record a sound on your microphone 2. Edit the sound. 3. Export the sound as an mp3 or wav. 4. Upload it to the internet . Here are some examples:http://www.freesound.org/usersViewSingle.php?id=718003
You need a interface. This one is very cheap, it says USB on it, its a small green box. Its made by midiman....... Or you can try fruity loops....
Yes there is. Most likely, plugging it in directly with an adapter will result in an unbalanced signal (terrible buzz on the recording). You can buy a "passive direct box" for about $30 to run between your mic and the microphone jack on your computer. Of course, you will also need a program to record to on your computer (GarageBand for Mac, Audacity or Ardour for Linux, and Audacity or Adobe Audition for Windows). That's the basics. Good luck!
Yes and it would do well to also download software program 'Audacity' (it's free).
