HDMI is the newer type of video out or in connector available on the market while DVI is the one before HDMI both can display beautiful HD pictures on a HD compatible screen.

Just get an HDMI cable if you don't already have one then plug it into the port underneath where you normally put the av cables on your 360. These devices are a total different purpose. HDMI is for visual and audio on a HD TV. Turtle Beach is for audio and/or online voice chat. So just plug the HDMI cable into the HDMI ports on your TV and Xbox. Plug you turtle beach headset into its specific port (USB).
1.4 is just the latest technology. It just means that with a HDMI 1.4 cable, you will get faster data transferring. If I was going to buy a HDMI cable and not know what version to get, I would just get the cheapest one. HDMI 1.4 is the specification for cable that is compatible with 3D transmissions. If you purchase a 1.3 spec cable, it may work with 3D, but it is not guaranteed. 1.4 also has the provision for Audio Return Channel, which may or may not be supported through your equipment.
VGA is analog while HDMI is digital; one would need to make such a conversion if connecting two otherwise incompatible devices. Blu-ray players and PS3s, for instance, generally have HDMI outputs, so an HDMI-to-VGA conversion would be necessary to display the video on older VGA display hardware.
To use an HDMI cord on the PS3, hook up both the AV multi out cord and the HDMI cord to the TV and turn on the TV to the AV setting. Go to options-display-display options(the first one), and follow the instructions. Once you press "yes" on the confirm settings screen, swith the TV to HDMI mode and see if it works.
