The moon's gravitational field was not strong enough to hold many gases when it was being formed. Because of this, no heavier gases remain in its atmosphere. It does have a thin exosphere with sodium and potassium gases, however.

The moon's gravity is too weak to hold on to an atmosphere. The lack of a magnetic field also causes the solar wind to strip away any gases that attempt to gather around the moon, resulting in the absence of a significant atmosphere.

The moon is very much lighter than earth, and has so much less gravity that all the gas in the atmosphere escaped. and it does not have any people because there is no space on the moon!!
