Because air planes are kept in the air by the way air flows around and against their surfaces while a balloon is kept in the air by the air inside the balloon is lighter than the air outside it. Basically a balloon is floating in air. And a roundish shape is what allows the biggest volume inside for the least amount of surface area, meaning that you get the most lift from the least amount of cloth.

Hot air balloons are designed to be aerodynamic and stable in the air, which is achieved by having a large, round shape that can capture the hot air and rise effectively. In contrast, airplanes are designed with wings and a streamlined shape to generate lift and move forward efficiently. The different shapes are necessary for the distinct purposes and mechanisms of each aircraft.

What kinds of balloons are there?

There are latex balloons, foil balloons, helium balloons, air-filled balloons, water balloons, and custom-shaped balloons available in various sizes, colors, and designs for different occasions.

Why are hot air balloons spheres?

Hot air balloons are usually designed in a spherical shape because it allows for even distribution of heat and lift, making them more stable in the air. The spherical shape also helps minimize stress on the fabric when the balloon is inflated, allowing for a more durable and efficient design. Additionally, the spherical shape provides more volume for the same surface area, maximizing the amount of hot air that can be used for lift.

Where in the atmosphere do hot air balloons float?

Hot air balloons float because hot air displaces cool air in the atmosphere

Why lighter than air balloons fly?

air balloons or hot air balloons fly because they fill with a very light type of air. The air is hot air.

how are hot air balloons different then planes in lift?

The hot air inside the balloon is less dense than the cold air outside, so the balloon floats on the denser air. But an airplane relies on a wing moving through the air to create lower pressure on the top of the wing, so that air below pushes the wing up. hot air balloons require no movement.
