Asaph Hall, in 1877. Mars has two tiny natural moons, Phobos and Deimos, which orbit very close to the planet and are thought to be captured asteroids.

Both satellites were discovered in 1877 by Asaph Hall, and are named after the characters Phobos (panic/fear) and Deimos (terror/dread) who, in Greek mythology, accompanied their father Ares (Mars) , God of War, into battle.

The Moon was not "discovered" as it has been observed by humans for thousands of years. The ancient Greeks were among the first to study and document its movements. Galileo Galilei was the first to observe the Moon through a telescope in 1609, providing detailed observations of its surface features.

The Italian, Galileo Galilei was the first astronomer to see the mountains on the moon, in 1609. He was using a newly-invented telescope of his own design that magnified about 30 diameters.

He predicted (correctly) that some of the mountains were taller than any on earth.

It's always been visible to anyone who looked, so it was never 'discovered' just as the Earth itself was never discovered, nor water, and other such "obvious" things.
