East, more or less. Depending on the date and your latitude, the exact direction may be somewhat north or south of due east, but the Sun (and Moon, and stars, and planets) all rise in "the east" and set in "the west".

The reason is that the Earth is actually spinning like a carousel, from west to east. The Sun, planets and stars aren't actually MOVING, and even the Moon doesn't move all that quickly.

I once made a trip to northern Norway in May. I asked the guide "When does the Sun go down", she said "October". If you are north of the Arctic circle, the Sun is up all night until the fall, and when the sun goes down in November, it doesn't come back up until spring.
