There are eight planets in our solar system. Their names, in order from nearest to furthest from the sun are: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Pluto, the furthest body from the sun, is no longer classified as a "planet" but as a "planetoid".

There are 8 planets in the solar system now: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, Uranus, and Neptune.

Eris, Pluto, Haumea, Makemake, and Ceres are considered dwarf planets, if you want to include those as well. Another 12 or so bodies are possible/likely dwarf planets that have not yet been studied sufficiently to definitively say; Sedna, Orcus, and Quaoar in particular are all almost certainly larger than Ceres and will likely eventually qualify after further studies.
