The mesosphere is the portion of the atmosphere from about 50 to 85 kilometers (31 to 53 miles) above the earth's surface, characterised by temperatures that decrease from 10°C to −90°C (50°F to −130°F) with increasing altitude.

1. The mesosphere starts just above the stratosphere and extends to 85 kilometers (53 miles) high.

2. Temperatures in the upper mesosphere fall as low as -100°C (-146°F or 173 K) , varying according to latitude and season.Within this layer, temperature decreases with increasing altitude.

3. The chemicals are in an excited state, as they absorb energy from the Sun. Millions of meteors burn up daily in the mesosphere as a result of collisions with the gas particles contained there, leading to a high concentration of iron and other metal atoms.

4.. The main dynamical features in this region are the atmospheric tides which are driven by momentum propagating upwards from the lower atmosphere and extending into the lower thermosphere.

Well if your talking about the Atmosphere. Then the Mesosphere should be around 40km in width, I don't exactly know the entire volume though. And it should be 50-85km above the Earth's surface, depending on where you are.

  • The mesosphere starts at 50 km above the ground and goes up to 85 km above the ground. It's right above the stratosphere and right below the thermosphere.
  • It's the hardest part of the atmosphere to study, because planes and weather balloons can't fly high enough to study it, but satellites can't fly low enough.
  • The top of the mesosphere (called the "mesopause" is the coldest part of our whole atmosphere.
  • It is very cold. Most meteors burn up in this layer.
