The clutch assemble is shot...
if it is in fact the starter, it is probably engaging the flywheel. starter may be faulty.
You probably have a "throwout bearing" going bad.
Yes they can make a grinding noise, if they are bad.
What would cause a grinding noise after a tire is replaced and the brakes are not worn?
Check the idler pully.
Normally a rusty rotor would not make a grinding noise. A grinding noise from the brakes usually indicated that the pads or shoes are worn down.
hmmmm. sounds like u need to have the clutch looked at.
This happened to me 2 months ago on my Astra. New clutch! Unfortuantely it means clutch plate is knackered. replace it whilat the car is still driveable or it'll go on you at the worst possible time!
your barrins in the wheels
if you have selcted the gear and setting off and it sounds like grinding the gearbox is on its way out. but if it is grind ing when selecting gears its your clutch not realising properly which could be your master cylinder this only happens if your clutch pedal only as half of its full raise. but if this is not the case, it could be the clutch... but i would try putting gear oil in first in all the cases i have mentioned.
I would guess that it is the wheel bearing. is it a grumbling sound or an all out grinding? If it is or was a grumbling sound and has turned into a grinding it is probably the wheel bearing.
