Under the lower intake manifold... the entire manifold must be removed which is a 2.5hr job... and you will see it on the engine block itself.

there are 2 of them. bank one and bank two. both are under the upper intake manafold in the center of the motor. I also have the 97 q45 and just replaced both of mine. real pain. have fun

Not at all. It is a very labor intensive job which includes removing the entire air intake. There are two knock sensors and getting to them both is difficult. My mechanic took almost 7 hours in total. Best (but most expensive) bet is to have the work done by an Infiniti dealer.
