The water pump is located in the timing set up behind the timing cover its a good idea to replace the timing belt when u replace the water pump
Water Pump 94 passportThe water pump is located under the timing belt covers and is a nightmare to replace if you are a common do it your self mechanic.The top and front half of the engine has to be removed.Take it to a Honda dealer and have them replace the timing belt and the water pump at the same time. Two birds in one stone helps save money!
You do not have to change the timing belt to replace the water pump. You do have to remove the timing belt cover to be able to access the bolts that hold the water pump on.
Honda says to replace the timing belt at 105,000. I replaced mine at 100,000. Don't know the recommendation for the water pump but had mine done with the belt replacement.
For my 2001 Honda Passport, I paid $420 to have the water pump and timing belt replaced in October 2008.
