According to alldata the recommend grade of oil is 5w30.

Regular - 87
Can you? Sure you can. Should you? No, you should not. The recommended weight oil for a 1997 Honda Accord is SAE 5w30. Use only that weight in conventional or synthetic.
I use 10w 30 and my 88' Honda accord runs greatAnswerAs with any aging car, the older it gets the more leaks itacquires, as lines age and crack and contact points get worn, there are more points to have seep and leak.In a new car that has not the life experiences that an '88 Honda does it would be fine to run a thiner oil like a 5W30, but as you do have a vintage Honda i would agree with the post above and run a thicker oil such as a 10W30, may be even with an additive such as "XM-5" oil stabilizer, to help with the worn parts and prevent some small seepage and minor leaks.
The correct usage is in Seventh Grade but to use this properly, you must out it in quotes. In "Seventh Grade" by Gary Soto,............

Normally, use a 15 W 40 oil of JASO MA or MA2 approved grade intended for motorcycles.
