I run a '02 Protege with summer and winter tires, as I work in Calgary Alberta. Summer Tires- Michelin HydroEdge. Work real nice, put on a set before a trip accross the country. They really saved me a few times in heavy downpours on the highway. Just finished their third season. Winter Tires- Michelin X-ICE. Worked quite well first season. This year they seem to have lost a lot of grip...might look at a set of Blizzaks for next year.
A 2001 Mazda Protege uses standard 10w-30 motor oil. This provides a good balance of viscosity and protection for the engine.
That's slightly below average. I've been told the average driver puts 14,000 miles on a car in a year.
This one really sucks. You have to purchase a new set of wires for your protege, and Mazda makes this really expensive.($210.00) Nology makes a really good set that you can order on the internet. It is a special set up since Mazda uses a coil on plug system.
114 ft lbs of torque. 125HP... edmuds.com is a good place for info like this!
9 times out of 10 is a your EGR valve stuck open due to rust, do a google search for protege low idle you'll find it! good luck
It could be the ICM or the pickup module.
You can find a Mazda repair manual at just about any auto parts store or you can check at your local library to see if there is one available for checkout.
Good question. I guess you would have to take it apart to find out.
Deciding between these two cars really depends on what your looking for and what amenities are important to you. The mazda generally has beter mileage but the Honda Civic is consistently seen as reliable and having a good resale value. I would personally prefer a Mazda Protege because unless you have the funds to purchase a Honda with model upgrades.
Yes, they are only good for either 60,000 or 100,000 mile depending on which type was used.
I own a 2002 Mazda Protege5 with the FS2.0 Motor. The EGR Valve is located below the throttle-body. You must take off the Intake tube to get a good view of it. To replace it I think you might have to take off the throttle-body, but I'm not sure about that...(yet) NOTE: Mazda put out a technical note stating that "if your car has sat for a long time, the egr valve could be damaged by moisture (rain) and will need to be replaced". My 2002 Protege sat for 3 weeks and the rain caused this exact issue and had to be replaced. How did I know? The engine light came on (after never coming on) and the car had an extremely rough idle. Total cost was ~$400 (ouch).
need some more information my friend The power window motors on a Protege are non-repairable items. Make sure the switches, fuses, and such are in good order before replacing the motor.
