You need a special Toyota tool. if it's not in your truck try taking it to the Toyota service dept. or ask the parts dept there to print up a diagram of the tool you need--you can then see the hook/rod assembly. or go the junk yard and hope they have one.

I asked the Toyota service manage about this. I own a 2008 5.7 Tundra. Believe it or not it's at 100,000 miles for the first service. I'll bet you can't find the Transmission Dip stick either. There is none. He told me that the transmission must be brought up to a certain temperature and a special tool is needed to service it. So I decided to let Toyota do the job when the time comes.

yes you do the oil filter is a canister style filter and it is pretty much only one tool that fits it properly you should be able to buy it online or through the Toyota dealership. but yes it uses a special tool. if you don't use the tool you could cross thread or possibly strip the corners.
