Take it to the mechanic
tighten or replace your cap
replace fuel cap with Nissan only OEM replacement.
loose or faulty gas cap. You are losing vacuum pressure in your fuel tank and that is the most common cause.
You will have to figure this out for your self but how to think about this. There are two Oxegen Sensors in the exhaust. One on each side of the Catalyic converter. The difrence in readings is how the system checks the Cat. If you took out the Catalist and replaced with a straight pipe you get trhis code. There is a simple way around it by installing a resistor in the wiring to the rear cat. But that is not going to pass emissions testing.
The best way to fix a P1456 error (small evap. leak) on your Nissan is to have a "smoke machine" test done on it. This machine is hooked up to your car and pushes smoke throught the evap. system. The smoke will shoot out of the leak and indicate its precise location. You can also try getting a new gas cap and make sure that it clicks 3 times when you close it after filling your tank. Also, NEVER leave your car running when your fueling up as this can cause your "service engine soon" light to come on. The best choice however is doing the smoke test as this will elimiate any guess as to the location of the leak. Nissan dealers can perform this smoke machine test for you for about $90.00 and can save you alot of money by pin-pointing the leak so you don't keep buying parts you don't need!
Code P1456 means:EVAP Emission Control System Leak Detected (Fuel Tank System) Most likely causes 1- Loose fuel cap, 2- Vapor canister saturated 3-failed vent solenoid 4-failed purge solenoid This just happened to me an hour ago, on a Sunday, I am hoping that it is the Loose Fuel cap! That happened to me in my Mazada protege but it waited until quarter of a tank, you have to take it into the dealer, they are the only ones that can reset it. I just filled my Honda up for the first time since I owned it and it is still on F.
if you try to replace gas cap already, 99% would be your two way valve by the gas tank. p1456 means you have a leak in your evaporative system which collects the evaporative gases from you fuel and reroutes them back into the intake. you will notice increased fuel usage and possible overheating problems. there is a possibility that it might only be the fuel cap, but it is also possible that it is a much greater problem, as in a hole in the wrong place... This kind of misinformation is why you can't trust the internet for correct answers. You would be hard pressed to make a reasonable case for a P1456 causing any kind of overheating. Somewhere your fuel tank is unable to hold the fumes inside without releasing them into the atmosphere, thus causing pollution. That should in no way cause increased fuel use or overheating. A test is available for that concern using nitrogen gas being pressurized in the fuel tank/vapor recovery system to pinpoint the leak so you are not just throwing money at it guessing.
