An automatic transmission on Ford Ranger holds three quarts of transmission fluid. That is after you drain all the old transmission fluid out.
Fill the transmission filter with transmission fluid before you put the new transmission filter on. You probably will not need to add any transmission fluid.
Your tranny will start to slip and damage trans. Too much fluid can cause the transmission to blow seals. Drain out the excess, immediately.
too much trans fluid can burn up the trans. just drain some out till it is at the correct level
Drain and Refill Automatic Transmission Fluid - Volume: 3.20QTS. ( 3.0L )
I believe that your 2006 is similar to my 2000 and 1996 models. When you drain the fluid via the drain plug on the driver's side of the transmission, refill is about 4 quarts. This is not the same as the total capacity of the transmission because you cannot drain the torque converter this way. Changing the fluid every year is the best way to extend the life of your transmission.
NO. You must drain it out to the correct level. To much fluid will damage the transmission before it pushes the fluid out of the vent tube.
As far as I know, there is no reservoir for transmission fluid. You have to just pull the dip stick up and look to see how much fluid you have and if you need to add more. .
If you drain the Trans. AND Torque Converter you will need 10-12 QTS. of fluid
on the left side of the transmission about halfway up the side there is a square bolt. with the vehicle on level ground and "cold" remove this bolt. a small amount of fluid should come out (this means it is full) if not put your finger in the hole and try to feel the level. if you can't feel it you need to fill it (recommend a full drain and fill) if it looks black, chunky, thin or has water in it definitely drain and fill to drain undo the plug at the very bottom of the transmission. clean the plug to get as much metal of the magnet as you can (if it has one) once drained replace the plug using a new copper washer. where the square plug was use a hand pump to fill the box until fluid comes out the hole. replace plug. check for leaks
autozone or transmission shops will give these amounts complete drain or pan emptied, torque converter holds fluid also.
To drain and refill it takes 2.5 quarts of Mercon Automatic Transmission Fluid.
