This is not always easy to diagnosis for vehicles seeing as a water pump can break in multiple ways. The bearing for the shaft connecting the pully to the impeller can go bad, the impeller can break off inside the housing but the pully continue to turn or the pump housing can crack and start leaking. The first two problems are generally rare but the third is the most common from what I have seen so ill address this one. The cooling system is a closed system so if you notice that your coolant levels keep dropping and the engine gets hot suddenly, locate your water pump and look for coolant leaking around the housing with the engine running keeping in mind of the FAN, the ROTATING BELTS and HOT ENGINE PARTS! If you are leaking around the water pump then replace the pump as the seals are no good. Generally if the water pump is leaking you will sometimes also see a yellow like powder splashed around the entire engine compartment from coolant evaporating on hot engine parts. However if you dont see leaking coolant but your engine is running to hot your thermostat might be bad.
If nothing pumps out you need a new pump
the water pump seal is worn out you need a new water pump
you need a new water pump seal. also check to see if the shaft is worn might need to replace that too you need a new water pump
well if you have fuel and a new filter a good fuel pump relay and the wires going to the fuel pump have power and no fuel pressure you need a fuel pump
If you seem to have unusually low pressure or if your pump is running a lot then you need the system checked by a professional. Not necessarily a plumber.
