It will tell you how in the owners manual if you have one. If not, try turning your ignition key to the on position without starting the car and press on the brake pedal 5 times in a row. I hate to be a jerk...but no one asked WHERE to find the answer to this question...the question was HOW to do it. SO if you're giving answers on other sites (everyone), please don't reference WHERE to find the answer unless that was indeed the question. Other people reference this site after the answer is posted and it's quite aggravating when an answer like this is posted...why? Because first its 2009 and not everyone is lucky enough to have the owners manual to a 6 year old car. Second...I have a 2003 TL and it DOES NOT say how to do this...it refers you to the dealer. Second...if they wanted to use references as opposed to WIKIanswers...the site wouldn't be here. so heres my ANSWER You reset the maintenance required light With the car off press and hold the SELECT and RESET buttons while you put the key in the second stage (key on, one click past accessory) and continue holding for 20 seconds or until light extinguishes. Turn the key off and back on to verify that it worked.
It means it's time to change the oil.
You can't reset that light...there is no such thing as a 2002 Honda Element...they didn't come out until 2003.
no, you cannot reset the brake maintenance light until you get NEW BRAKE sensors. -Seven11
A handheld scan at $99 from Canadian Tire will do the trick.
Press and Hold the reset button located at the odometer. 2. Turn the ignition key to ON only, keep the reset button pressed until the maintenance light goes off (about 10 seconds).

You fail to mention which Honda, so try this. Turn the ignition on while holding the odometer reset button in at the same time. Wait until the light goes out. Should take about 5 seconds.
With the engine off, press and hold the mileage reset button on the instrument panel. Turn the key to "on" not start while still holding the button(10 to 30 secs.)It should reset the light. Don't reset this light without actually changing your oil though, that could be bad.
This works for a 2000 Honda Odyssey - it may also work for a 2002...try it.Of course you are free to have the service performed anywhere you like. It is not required that the services be performed at the dealer. As for the Maintenance Required Light, you, or your mechanic, can reset it. Here's how to reset the light:Turn off the engine.Press and hold the select/reset button in the instrument panel, then turn the ignition switch ON (Position II).Hold the button for at least 10 seconds, until the indicator resets. That's all there is to it.
