After calling 10 Nissan dealers, I found a 100Amp fuse (fusible link) in stock at a dealer 36 miles away. One parts dept told me there were short screw head bolts holding the fuse in place. No other dealer said this but in fact there are two bolts which are very difficult to access. One website advised there were no bolts and to use pliers and yank it out. BAD ADVICE! I tried that and broke the old fuse without success. On the sides of the fuse box there are small access panels that need to be carefully forced opened with a thin screwdriver. Both of my panels snapped trying to open them but I was able to reuse the panels. Under each access door is a bolt with a Phillips head. At first I couldn't loosen them with a screwdriver so had to use a #11 socket to loosen. To access the right side, the battery has to be removed. After removing the screw bolts, the fuse came out easily. The 100 amp main battery fuse is the only one held in place by screws. All the others are female and slide out.
OMG Thank You! I would not have been able to fix this without this note. I pulled so hard on those leads I thought i was going to pull the fuse box out. On my 1999 Altima GXE the two screws behind the plastic covers were an 8mm Left and a 10mm Right. Trying to use a phillips on these screws first striped the slots like butter. I had replaced my alternator and forgot to unhook the battery terminal and blew out this main fuse. I got a replacement 100 amp at Autozone for $4. I couldn't imagine making my wife drive the car without A/C and without power to the windows. "Your A/C doesn't work and you can't open the windows Honey...sorry ...i will try and figure it out another day...." My name would have been mud.
