To lubricate the automatic sliding doors on the Honda Odyssey, you must first remove the track cover on the outside of the van.
Step 1 lift the rear tailgate. with a flat blade screwdriver flip the screw covers for the rear taillight assembly open. use a Phillips screw driver to remove the two screws for each tailight assembly. the assembly must then be forced straight back to disengage the plastic pin in the front of the assembly. use care not to damage the finish on the car when pulling and prying the assembly out. if the pin breaks, it can be removed with a 10mm socket and replaced or hot glued back together. do not leave excess glue on the pin.
Step 2 With the doors closed, with a Phillips screw driver remove the two screws at the rear of the track cover on each side of the van.
Step 3 Open the doors and with an inline socket assembly and a 10mm socket remove the single bolt from the front of the track cover. be careful not to drop the bolt. use a magnetic stick to retrieve the bolt.
Step 4 Close the doors. Slide the track cover to the rear approximately 1 inch and lift off the center hold down brackets. The track, cable and wheels are now accessible for cleaning and lubrication.
Step 5 Using a soft cloth and a light oil such as WD 40 the track, cable and wheels can be cleaned and lubricated. you must wipe from the track and cable all dirt and buildup residue, until the shiny metal and clean cable are all that is left. the wheel must be sprayed repeatably until it moves smoothly along the track. the door must be opened and closed to access each end of the track until it is thoroughly clean. the wheel can be sprayed while the door is open.
Step 6 The bottom track and roller is in the body of the van. it can be cleaned in the same manner. Operate the doors to insure a smooth and quiet closing and opening of the doors.
Step 7 Wipe all of the excess lubricant from the tracks and cables and the car body as well.
Step 8 Replace the track covers in reverse of how they were removed. Replace the light assemblies in the reverse of their removal.
