I have a 2000 Kia Sportage and the engine and fuel relays are under the hood. They are on the left hand side close to the finder well in a black box. There is a diagram of which relay is what on top. If you look to the right of the fuse box there is a clip that you push and the cover comes right off. The main and the fuel relay are the same.

We found a bad fuel pump relay. in the main engine swap the main relay/ and the fuel pump relay to see if your symptoms change. if they do, you found your problem. the two relays are the same part number.
the problem is the 2 relays ,main engine and fuel pump relays. they work together so if one arcs it shuts off the other. Always replace BOTH run about $16.50 ea at Kia dealer.
The water pump on a 2001 Kia Sportage is located on the front of the engine. It circulates coolant through the engine and radiator to prevent overheating.

In the black box on the right side under the hood. The fusible links, relays, fuses are there also.
it should ,they are both the same engine, the only thing that would hesitate me would be the connection harness to sensors and computers.
This being a non-interference engine there's no such risk.
