No, an expansion tank is not required.
you need to drop the drive shaft, and rear axle to pull the gas tank out. don't forget to replace the fuel pump while the tank is removed.
i take it you are talking bout expansion tank on a/c this is evaporation and is common on all vehicles if you are talking bout expansion tank on radiator, you have either got to much coolant in radiator,(check level when cold) or you have an air lock in the cooling system and need the system bled to remove air
It inside the fuel tank. Open the fuel door take the screws off that hold the filler on. Remove the straps that hold the tank up. Lower the tank just enough to remove the fuel lines and electrical connector. Remove the three screws that hold the pump in.
Thermostat housing is part of expansion (overflow) tank - remove bolts for tank & stat is behind it on intake manifold.
Under the back left seat under the car,about half way between the engine and the tank,that's on my 98 3.5 v6 petrol.I believe it's just under and to the left from the battery if you look at it from the front in the 2.8 diesel
