according to the emissions label it does not have an EGR valve.
There is no EGR valve on this generation of Corolla. This engine is equipped with VVT-i (variable valve timing with intelligence), that allows it to perform the function of EGR without the former EGR hardware.
The Geo Prism and Toyota Corolla were assembled in the same factory on the same assembly line using the same engines. The EGR valves should be virtually identical.
I HAVE NOTICED THAT FROM 87-92 MANY AUTO MAKERS DID NOT USE AN EGR VALVE...EXAMPLE 88FORD TAURUS,92 TOYOTA COROLLA
2001 Honda CR-V DOES NOT have an EGR valve!
If you're corolla is a 92' model then it doesn't have one. If engine ping is you're problem then good luck.
The EGR Valve on a 2006 Corolla is located on the driver's side of the motor at the very top of the valve cover. Look for a disk shaped valve that kind of looks like a flying saucer. It has two small hoses coming off of it that are connected to the EGR Valve Modulator.

A 2001 Ram does not have EGR.
P0401 indicates problems with EGR system... It might a simple one, for instance, you just need to clean EGR pipe and valve. Or it can be more expansive one like faulty EGR valve or EGR sensor. Which one you have impossible to answer without testing the car. And you can use the professional Toyota tool to repair it, I think the Toyota it2 is a good tool for it.
