This repair requires skill and must be done correctly every 90,000 miles. Your Honda has an interference engine and if not done right you can cause serious engine damage. Take it to a professional, or purchase a repair manual.
In a dual overhead cam type of engine (or any other known today), camshafts will make 2 turns for every 1 turn of crankshaft. (Rotary engines are different)
The cam belt must be removed as it drives the water pump. This is an interference engine. Do this repair incorrectly and severe engine damage will occur. Cam belt must be replaced every 90,000 miles. I recommend you take it to a professional for this repair or purchase a repair manual so that you can do it right. I repeat, do this wrong and you will cause engine damage.
The crankshaft turns twice for every rotation of the distributor. Turn the engine 360 degrees (once around) and it should bring up #1TDC.
Interval is - 100000 kms On the 1996-97 replace it every 60,000 miles. On the 1998-2000 replace it every 90,000 miles. Also replace the water pump which is driven by the cam belt. This is NOT an interference engine.
no you are stupid if you don't know this
I cannot list in this small space how to replace the water pump. What I will tell you is that when replacing the water pump, also replace the cam belt and visa versa. This engine is an Interference engine. If the cam belt breaks, serious engine damage will occur. The cam belt needs to be replaced every 60,000 miles on this model year Civic. You can purchase a Haynes or Chilton's repair manual that will help with this repair, if you have the skill and tools.I cannot list in this small space how to replace the water pump. The Mazda RX8 has a theoretical capacity of less than 1.5ltr, and is tuned to produce over 200bhp. However, it is a rotary engine, and requires large, technical and expensive maintenance and a fill-up of oil every 1500 miles. Not a car for the inexperienced.
usually every 100000
every 100000 miles
