Yes, you can put 10w40 in your transmission. Acura states in their owner's manual that motor oil can be used to fill the transmission. BUT... this would only be a stop gap measure. Honda and Acura prefer that you use their MTF (manual transmission fluid). Adding motor oil to the transmission will not damage it, however, shifting may be noticeably stiffer, and the motor oil will have to be changed more frequently. Honda MTF is especially formulated to last longer, and work more smoothly with this specific application. A quart bottle of the stuff costs about $6 at your local Honda dealer... DON'T buy it at an Acura dealership, for some reason it cost three dollars more for the exact same stuff with a different label on it.
if it is a manual transmission no gear oil!! regular 10w-40 motor oil any brand it does not matter
No you can't used 10W-40 in the Trans either the transmission oil or you could go with Mobile 1 synthetic
i also have a 1987 Honda accord lxi 5spd. It takes regular 10w-30 motor and it takes about 2 quarts
a manual trans uses sae- 10W-30 engine oil auto trans uses dextron lll fluid
10w 30 motor oil shold work just fine , syntetic is better . the car should be level to add the proper amount
I run amsoil for pre-mix and in the tranny I usually run cheap 10w-40, that way I can afford to change it almost every ride. In 30 years of racing (moto) I have never had one tranny or clutch problem.-- helium.
They'll work, but could blow.
10w/60 10w/60 10w/60
5w-30 is recommended but you could use 10w-30.
SAE 10W could be using in larger of range temperature, so SAE with W character also means suitable for winter season as well as tropical season or ambient temperature. this SAE 10W also means multi grade oil. thanks
Yes
i would suggest 10w 40
