well,is it automatic or manual ? automatic possibly low on fluid, high miles(needs to be rebuilt) ,some other possibilties like the computer transmission under the driver side dash has gone out, put usually you get check engine light when this goes. manual worn clutch, out of adjustment clutch, throwout bearing ,if hydraulic low on fluid, high miles... rebuild , etc oh yes, one more the auto won't shift because the TEMPERATURE sensor has died and wont send a warm up signal to let the computer know the engine ihas warmed up,usually this shows up as will shift from 1st to 2nd to 3rd, but NOT 4th.the reason is the computer wont let 4th work until it sees temp rising in sensor,so it says dont shift keep engine revs at 3500 rpm to speed up engine warm up temp.slik eh !
