Depending on how you answer, they can see if you really understand the job responsibilities and how your strengths allow you to meet those responsibilities. There could be several reasons if you are not hired for a job you are qualified for: * Someone else more qualified than you applies and gets the job ahead of you * You did not sell yourself well enough in the interview so the interviewer did not feel you were right for the job * You might not have fitted into the company as a whole
A mentor should not be expected to guarantee you that you will be hired for a job.
