The disadvantages of an electric sewing machine are:The very obvious, you can not sew when there is no electricity. For new learners it could be overwhelming during initial attempts to learn to operate it. One needs to learn fist how to step on the foot control. how to slow down and speed up after all i don't know if there is a need for speeding up when sewing. it is always learn how to slow down stitching by controlled pressure on the foot control. There is maintenance cost, though very minimal for the motor and the foot control on the carbon. There will be no option for manual operation it is not the basic sewing machine which is the conventional straight stitching machine. Basic stitching machines, the conventional black unit mounted on a sewing table can be operated either manually or motored. The advantages are:Less effort is necessary to finish a sewing project.Sewing manipulation is easier, especially when there is a need to control stitches and the hands need to be busy manipulating the fabric during stitching. Once the foot has mastered the foot control, the sewer will not want to sew without it.Most electric sewing machines come with more applications than straight stitching, so one will not need another equipment for different application like buttonholes, raw edge lock stitching, three step zigzag stitches. Sometimes embroidery stitches are also included.
