Yarn that is not spun enough will break as there is not enough tension holding the fibers together. The twist of a given yarn is measured by the twist per inch. The amount of twist needed varies based on fiber type and the thickness of the desired yarn.

Yarn Twist
Twist is the spiral arrangement of the fibers around the axis of the yarn. it binds the fiber together and strenghten the yarn. There are tw type of twist one is "S" type and other one is "Z" Twist
There are two different types of yarn twists. It depends on the direction of the twist--clockwise, or counterclockwise. The twists are named after the letter of the alphabet that the twist looks like. Therefore, you have an "S-twist" and a "Z-twist." The twist in the yarn looking like the letter "s" or the letter "z."

S and Z twist are two types of twist given to yarn. Before giving twist fibre /roving strand has to be parallel so that either twist given is not affected. Either of twist is suitable but in practical applications Z twist is given to yarns either be knitting or weaving.
