∙ 12y agoJustin Hayward is said to have written "Nights In White Satin" during a tumultuous time in his young life. He was seeing the end of one relationship and the beginning of a new relationship with a woman who eventually became his wife. He says there is a 'spiritual' component to the song as well as an 'I love you, baby--come to bed' component. "Nights In White Satin" has become so much a part of our culture that Justin no longer believes the song actually belongs to him or to the Moody Blues...it belongs to the fans. And of course it would be a lovely wedding song--it's all about love!

∙ 16y agoThe song has nothing to do with death. It is about unrequited love. The lonliness and heartbreak of not having the one you want with you, which intensifies at night when you are alone and thinking and hoping and fantasizing. Beautiful song. When I was little I thought it was "KNIGHTS in White Satin" and attributed the lyrics to mean something entirely different, much more romantic.

∙ 12y agoOk my reading of it is
Nights in white satin; could mean sating bed sheets
Never reaching the end; endless night
letters i writen never meaning to send; well we've all done that after a break up
Beauty I've always missed with these eyes before; not seeing whats in front of u
Just what the truth is i can't say anymore;confused about his life feelings
but i love you;
gazing at people some hand in hand; watching people going by
just what I'm going through they can't understand; feeling of loneliness in a crowd
some try to tell me thoughts they cannot defend; not seeing eye to eye with others
just what you want to be you will be in the end; Life will take its course
and i love you;
Then it repeats 1st verse
