As you know this is a very stubborn and messy stain (unlike candle wax) so it's best to have a professional carpet cleaner come up to try and get it out. Be sure you tell them it's a wool rug. If they can't get the spot out then phone a carpet repair place and they can fix it. I had a party once and someone burned a hole in my carpet with a cigarette and said nothing. I got a carpet repair man up and I couldn't believe what a good job he did and you couldn't even tell where the burn was.
My cousin, her friend and I were having a sleepover new years eve. The friend spilled a little pink nail polish on my cousins new light brown carpet. We looked stuff up on the internet and found nail polish remover worked great. It did not work out for us. We also found vinegar worked it did not either. Then we found out window cleaner worked. We tried it and the stain was gone! It took a while to get out but it was worth the time.
I had a big problem when i discovered black nail varnish on our baige carpet. I thought it wouldn't come out, but with some research i found out is was possible to remove the stain. As the solutions they recommended to use we didnt have , we thought we could use vanish power foam, it is not meant to lift stains but we found it reacted to the stain quite well. After nearly an hour of scrubbing with a toothbrush the stain was finaly lifted.
Hope this helps.
use nail polish remover, water, cleaning stuff for a carpet or call a carpet company any of those would work
This just happened to me! Bright purple nail polish on tan carpet and it was already dry and crusted. It took me about twenty minutes and about a half bottle of nail polish remover. But apply quite a bit onto the area and dab and pick in an upward motion at it. Don't scrub until the stain is almost removed or it will spread. Also I used pet stain remover on it towards the end and voila!

Fast Dry Nail Polish
This is a product that lets the nail polish dry mailchi.mp/31c43cb1692b/h21
You could try putting some nail polish remover in it.
You can try to use non acetone nail polish remover on it, wipe dry and repeat. Acetone will eat away at the carpet fibers. It probably won't come completely out of the carpet. For the best result use this method. 1. Dab with nail polish remover, do not scrub it. 2. Sponge the stain with a household dry-cleaning fluid following the maker's instructions. Do NOT soak. Open windows and air the room thoroughly.
Clear nail polish is great if you want your nails to look shiny and feel smooth without actually wearing a colored nail polish. Also, applying clear nail polish over a nail polish color you are wearing preserves the colored nail polish for a longer amount of time.

To remove dark nail polish from carpet, first blot up as much as possible with a clean cloth. Then, apply a small amount of nail polish remover onto a clean cloth and gently dab at the stained area, working from the outside in to prevent spreading. Repeat until the stain is lifted, then rinse the area with water and blot dry.
It's Solvet!
No, nail polish remover is not flammable when dry. The flammability of nail polish remover comes from its liquid form, as it contains solvents that are highly flammable and evaporate quickly. Once the liquid has evaporated and the remover has dried, it is no longer flammable.
