it depends on what type of chemicals or materials the stain contains. nail polish remover is a very powerful chemical remover but, does take off stains very well. if i know whet the stain is made from i would be happy to share more knowledge on the subject

I find that liquid dishwasher detergent works well. Treat the bottom of the sink with one or two tablespoons of liquid dishwasher detergent. Let stand 5 minutes, fill the sink with water and let it stand an hour or more. Drain and rinse.
