How do you make a lawn mower train?

You will need the following;

A Circular Saw to cut your barrels, a drill press, an Angle Grinder or Chop Saw to cut the metal, a Drill with bits that can drill through metal, Bolts, Locknuts, and washers, Tires, Wheels, Axles, metal for the frame, and alot of spare time. Now lets get to work!

You first must get a good running lawn mower. I would suggest that you get one with at least 17 horsepower. You could get one with less, but it might be hard on it depending on the terrain and weight your pulling. Then you must get all your parts for the train. The amount of materials greatly depends on the amount of train cars and the weight of your passengers, but i will give you some guidelines to follow. Most people use old 55 gallon barrels for the base of the train cars. Again, these are only guide lines depending on how much your building. You can often get the metal needed for the frames of the cars at your local tractor supply, or, if you have enough, you can use scrap metal. To start off, bend a piece of metal into a large C. The long part of the C goes beneath the barrel, and the short part on the sides. Bolt the C into place after you drill holes into your barrel. Place one bolt into each end of the C .Before you put one in the center, put in a long piece of tubing with one hole in th center and 2 holes to go on each end of the barrel to keep it from wobbling side to side when you turn. This tubing will connect the train cars. The hole in the center of the C will go in the center hole of the tube. Place your axles under the car and bolt them into place. Then you will cut a hole in the top of each car for the kids to sit in. Repeat process with other cars.

As for a train body, you or a local fabrication will have to make parts to make it look like a real train if desired. Hope this helped you out and good luck to ya!
