TO install any stereo/cd player all you need is the correct wiring harness and mounting kit. You can pick them up at your local BEst Buy or another store like it. You will also need to locate the main module for the stereo which is under the dash ( can be view if you remove the cover plate under the steering wheel). Disconnect all connections and use a wiring kit to plug them into. The antenna is also on that module and you wil need an adapter. I just did this to my 89 c1500 and it took a while. And forwarning, it is an old truck and things are fragile so be careful not to break anything.
I would visit the Crutchfield site. You can input your car's info and you can get a list of CD players that will fit. The CD players are usually in combination with an AM/FM radio and replace your factory installation. Once you make your purchase, you will receive very detailed instructions. Especially helpful is the sheet that is made explicity for your vehicle that will show you how to remove your old unit and replace it with an after-market unit. You will also receive a wiring harness that will connect directly to the one already in your Olds. No, I don't work for them, but I have purchased at least 3 CD players from them for my wife's car as well as my two sons' cars, so I know how easy it was for a rank amateur like me to do it. They also have tech help available via an 800 number if you get stuck.
