A cdj is only a CD player in the same way a car player needs a source of power to push the sound to your speakers so does the CD as said you need a amp if your sub woofer is preamped then technically you should be able to connect it directly to it but you will need to be careful of the sound output and realise that you will not be able to control the levels as well compared to if you were using a mixer or amp.

Yes it is i am using this setup for my own setup which consists of a djm 700 and 2 cdj 400's. you can either use the cdj through the usb as a control usb interface or you can use the cdjs using the control discs which are generic and can be used in all CD players. I do recommend using the cdj 400s with serato they seem to work very well together and complement each other
