No, but the drum is usually stuck to the hub.
id like to know the same thing. i have a 1995 Honda ATV. and i cant get the rear brake drum off
You have to disassemble the wheel bearing, then the drum and hub pull off as an assembly.
to take off a drum of your rear brakes you need a flat head screwdriver. simply place the screwdriver through the crack between the drum and the axel and pull in your direction all the way around and this should loosin the drum being able to get to your brakes
Remove the rear wheel, and the drum will slide off, unless its been there for a while, then you may have to tap around the edges with a hammer, and be sure you dont have the e-brake set, or you wont get it off.
The brake drum cannot fall off unless the wheel is removed. That is physically impossible.
Depending on the year it could be mounted on the right rear wheel or to the right of the rear axle support. If it is on the wheel, you have to remove the spindle by removing the cotter pin and unscrewing the castle nut, then unscrew the bolts holding the cover to the backing plate, then making sure the brakes are backed all the way off, gently work the drum off using pry bars if necessary. Be careful, the backing plate is aluminum and will break easily. If on the axle, you will have to remove the spindle as above. Then you have to remove the axle nuts that are against the drum cover. If they have never been off, soak them in PB Blaster prior to removal, I have had to use heat on quite a few as well to get them off. Once they are removed, the procedure is the same.
Take the rear tire off. Make sure the emergency brake is OFF then just pull the drum off. It may need a couple hits with a hammer to come loose. Drums just slip off. Take the rear tire off. The first step is to remove the tire. The rear brake drum will have what is known as a self-adjusting screw. This may need to be adjusted to pull the drum off, once you have the tire removed.
Take the wheel off to see if you see a caliper for a disc brake or a drum for a drum brake.
Remove the wheels and if there are clips on the drums.remove them. Rotate the drum back and forth while trying to pull the drum off. If it does not come off then the brakes will have to be backed off using tue adjuster.
