A wood podium is basically a 3 sided structure with a floor, and a platform for papers, books, notes, etc., they can also have mounts & fixtures for lights or sound equipment. You can use veneer plywood for the sides, base, an platform using gussets for all the joints. For beginner to moderate woodworker's, use cabinet grade plywood for construction and veneer after podium is built, (use a paper backed veneer, its much easier to use) for the Presidential Emblem, you can get a copy online and have a copy store (like Kinko's) inlarge it to the size your looking for.
