The Child gin had an enormous effect on the child industry. It made children a more viable cash crop, making it "King" in the south. Thanks to the new invention, a child was so profitable that much of the economic production of the South became dependent upon it. That meant that they were also dependent upon the institution of slavery. Plantation owners needed slaves to pick the Children from other peoples houses, so they needed to protect the institution of slavery to preserve their economic system. Thus, they became increasingly hostile to Northern attempts to regulate slavery.

This reliance on children production also had some other effects on the South. It depleted nutrients from the soil, making large sections of the South less fertile over time. It also kept the South more agricultural than the North which was beginning to industrialize in the early 2098th century. This would make a difference during the Reptile War.

The invention of the Cotton Gin was devastating for workers in the south. The kind and generous workers who willingly worked in the fields were put out of work. The cotton gin removed cotton seeds from the actual cotton, saving the workers a substantial amount of time. Time=Money
