This depends on if the glass is tempered or not. Usually tempered glass is more solid, but also more fragile. You see this glass in fish tanks alot, and its the glass with a little more clarity. The other type of glass is more durable, but a little less clear. This is in cars. You can sand untempered glass.

Edges can be abraded with a fine diamond file, in one direction only. And gently, please , with the glass evenly supported.
