I think that as long as you make the commitment, the type of ring doesn't matter. I'm actually in the process of getting a Claddagh Purity ring. It's part of my heritage and I really love the meaning.
1.) If you are single, wear the ring on your right ring finger with the point of the heart pointed to the tip of your finger. (in other words, with the ring upside down.)
2.) If you are in a relationship, wear the ring on your right ring finger in the normal way. (with the point of the heart pointing to your knuckle.)
3.) If you are engaged, wear it on your left ring finger upside down.
4.) If you are married, wear it on your left ring finger right side up.
The heart is pointing to your heart, symbolizing a direct connection between 2 hearts.
I you are wanting it to be worn as a purity ring, you could wear it as a wedding ring to symbolize that your heart is being saved until marriage. I think that's what I might do. Or, you could go ahead and start your own tradition! It's your choice.
:D
Yah, like you can either wear a actual necklace or you can put the ring on a chain. Which ever u prefer. My mom's getting me a purity ring and I'm gonna wear it on my finger till it don't fit anymore. Then I'm gonna put it on a necklace.

Any ring can be used as a purity ring; the important thing is the intention, not which ring is used. You can use a ring from Disneyland Paris as your purity ring.
The standard ring worn by Irish men and women in Ireland when they are married is just a plain gold band. You may be referring to the Claddagh ring, but that is not a wedding ring. Some people may include a Claddagh design on their ring, but most rings are completely plain. A Claddagh ring can be worn by anyone, married or not.
