After the Persian War, Athens converted the anti-Persian Delian League which it led into an empire of its own. Using this power, it became aggressive against some of the other independent city-states, culminating in its attempt to bankrupt its neighbour Megara, a member of the Peloponnesian League led by Sparta.
Sparta appealed to Athens to back off, Athens refused and war ensued.
While Athenians revered politics and public services, and found participating in either an honor, the Spartans were the exact opposite. Spartans would say that the only worthy public service is serving your country is in the military. Spartans left the majority of running the government to ephors. Men to old or to maimed to be of any help in the military, men that had a son killed were also included in this group (if they couldn't lie their way out of it). This difference can all be seen in one defining fact; Spartans not only let their helots participate in the government but gave them a level of power that the Athenians usually left for only some of the more respected citizens of Athens. Also should be mentioned the word laconic directly applies to the spartan way of public speaking, something they detested.
No, the Spartans didn't pray to another god because, we should remember they were in different city and state. Also all ancient Greek were isolated so I think they didn't pray to the same god.
They are very straight forward and and tactical. They somethimes have moments of humor but are usually very serious. They take a loss in their squad very hard and will die to keep everyone else alive.
The difference between their education is that Spartans were birthed for war and learned the brutality of war from a young age as Athenians were taught philosophy and astronomy as well as other subjects. Both city-states had education but Athens had more of a formal education.Athens:Went further into educationBoys had to memorize everything due to the lack of books (teachers read out loud)Girls didn't learn as much as boys did; but if their mother had some sort of education they would learn it in their homeSparta:Still had educationBoys still had to memorize everything due to the lack of books (teachers read out loud)Had less education but more military stuff
The difference between Sparta and Athens is that in Sparta, the ruling government was a military government, while in Athens, the ruling government was a democracy. In Sparta, the people focus on military matters. That is because of the fear of an uprising by their helots. In Athens, a democracy ruled. People voted on many matters such as which one they thought was the most dangerous to their testate and even military and naval expeditions against rival statutes. The different arts such as sculpture and poetry also flourished more in Athens. Athenians believed that one should also focus themselves on matters other than military ones. Athens focused on trades, technologies, civilizations, studies,... while Sparta focused on the military. That's why Spartan warriors were the most fierce warriors in Ancient Greece. Athens also treated their children differently. For example: Boys were taught reading, writing, mathematics, music, poetry, and sports. While in Sparta, they took them away from their parents at 7 yrs. old, to train for war. Further, in Sparta, both - boys and girls went to school, but in Athens, boys went to school but the girls did not, but attended basically, house work.
it was definitely in the spartan times i am doing homework on Spartans so i should know
Athens was more of a city-state that weren't as involved in the military as the Spartans were. Athens was more involved in the navy. Girls in Athens had to do mustily hose hold chores, and they were not aloud to vote. When i came to acting, only men could act. (as you can tell women did not have a lot to do in the picture.) Anyway, if you want to find more research you should really go to-Athens vs Sparta differ.com
"The government and society in Sparta are so strict. The people have little voice in government." Athenians were a lot more artsy than Spartans, so a statement could be, "Wow, these Spartans are really militaristic." Athens focused on the arts and broadening the mind, and depended on its citizens to be automatically patriotic, whereas Sparta sent boys off to train in the military at young ages, teaching them patriotism, instead of earning it by the goodness of the city-state. In essence, the two cities were complete opposites, so any statement showing the opposing opinions should work.
The differences between Athens and Sparta were caused by the geographical location, they were quite far apart so it should be expected that they had different societies. Another reason was that they were both founded at different times, by different people. They were both independent city-states in southern Greece. The Spartans were rural, living off the produce of a serf population and devoting themselves to training for war. The Ahenians had to do their own production and their war training in their spare time. The Spartans were stolid and cautious, the Athenians were adventurous.

Spartans were better that Athens! no doubt about it. Actually, Sparta had a better army; the best army in Greece, and Spartan women enjoyed a higher status than women in Athens. Otherwise, it was generally better to be an Athenian, although they were far from perfect too.

Athens was overconfident and aggressive. Sparta and its allies drew a line over a dispute over Megara, and tried to get Athens to soften its position. Athens refused and war ensued.
