Quarks were theorized in 1964 and experiementally verified in 1968. To say "invented" would be a misnomer.
This next part is a direct quote from the Wikipedia article titled "Quark" [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quarks ]:
The quark model was independently proposed by physicists Murray Gell-Mann and George Zweigin 1964. There was little evidence for this model until 1968, when electron-proton scattering experiments indicated that the electrons were scattering off three point-like constituents inside the proton. All six flavors of quark have been observed, following the discovery of the top quark at Fermilab in 1995.
Neutrons consist of small particles, called "Quarks". Protons also consist of quarks, but what quarks is made of, is still not discovered.
In an atom, the neutrons and protons are made up of up quarks and down quarks. Strange quarks, charms quarks, top quarks, and bottom quarks also exist, but do not play as much of a role in the structure of an atom.
A proton contain 2 up quarks and 1 down quark; quarks are bonded by gluons.
The subatomic particles found in protons and neutrons are quarks. There are two types of quarks that combine to make either particle, up and down quarks. Protons are 2 ups and a down and neutrons are 2 downs and an up.
A mixture of down and up quarks and antiquarks. D-antiD, D-antiU, U-antiD, or U-antiU.
Quarks, gluons and gauge bosons are the simplest particles currently discovered.

Up quarks and down quarks are in protons and neutrons.
Protons contain two up quarks and one down quark, while a neutron contains two down quarks and one up quark.
Quarks. Up and down quarks, I think. Google quark.
up-quarks and down-quarks
Up quarks Down quarks Bottom quarks Top Quarks Charm quarks Strange Quarks and then there were leptons... simple- 8 protons 8 electrons 8 Neutrons and if you're dumb and you mean what is in air, then why don't you learn how to google
3 each. A proton is composed of 2 up quarks and 1 down quark. A neutron is composed of 1 up quark and 2 down quarks.
"There are six types of quarks, known as flavors: up, down, charm, strange, top, and bottom. Up and down quarks have the lowest mass of all quarks. The heavier quarks rapidly change into up and down quarks through a process of particle decay: the transformation from a higher mass state to a lower mass state. For this reason, up and down quarks are generally stable and the most common in the universe, whereas charm, strange, top, and bottom quarks can only be produced in high energy collisions (such as those involving cosmic rays and in particle accelerators)." -Copied word for word from wikipedia.
